Roy's 1971 Scout 800B
Butterscotch and white were the colors used for the Comanche Scout, which was put into production around mid-November 1970. Of course it had wide chromed wheels and chrome bumpers, and either the 6-232 or the V-304 engine could be ordered, along with the usual choice of three or four speed manual, or three speed automatic with either of the engines. The tires were H70-15 2 ply LR-B BT General Belted Scramblers, with raised letters in butterscotch. The wheels were 15 inch disc 700 JJ types, and dual fuel tanks, floor mats, rear seat, sliding rear windows, outside tire carrier, undercoating, and radio were standard. Axle ratio choices were 3.31, 3.73 and 4.27 to 1.

Purchased on Ebay 6/28/2005 in Lake Havasu City, AZ and trailered to Tucson on August 6, 2005
The Good:
Solid body – no apparent rust – haven’t pulled up the mats yet but don’t see any pinholes from underneath. Update: a couple of rusted through spots on the driver's side floor and in the corner of the passenger floor.
Engine compartment clean – not much leaking oil- no drips underneath after sitting on the trailer for a day. Can still see mostly red paint on the engine. Maybe it’s been rebuilt/replaced?
T-39 transmission shifter knob is intact!
Spare tire mount with spare mounted on chrome rally wheel
Still has original Comanche decals on fenders and hood.
Front and rear chrome bumpers are in excellent shape.
All chrome rally wheels are in good shape
All A/C hoses still hooked up.
Rear diff still has BOTH id tags; the ratio tag and the limited slip lube tag. Front diff has ratio tag.
Gears are 3.73, Pow-R-Loc rear
Tie rod reinforced with angle iron.
License plate light housing looks good – no rust.
Under dash courtesy light is complete and functional |
The Bad:
Water leak - appears to be coming from a side freeze plug
No windshield – frame is bent and has been welded in both top corners – looks like it might have been rolled. Scrapes on hood and front fenders consistent with a rollover. The top is not original. That one was probably ruined in the roll.
No rear seat | |
Front seat covers are completely trashed. Frames look OK.
Hood is badly dented and has holes, dents and cuts in it.
Travel top has several holes drilled in it.
Lots of body dents – passenger door probably needs replacing – again possible damage from the rollover.
Damage to driver's side wing window frame.
Separate remote ignition switch installed.
Gas tank lines are disconnected from the selector valve. Electric fuel pump installed inline on frame rail under driver’s side. |
